Thanks to the generosity shown during last year’s season of giving, the MALDI Biotyper was purchased for the FSJ Hospital Lab. The MALDI Biotyper (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) enables lab staff to identify bacteria and yeast with remarkable speed and precision. It processes hundreds of samples per hour, reducing wait times and helping clinicians make faster, more targeted treatment decisions.

September 2025 Update on the MALDI Biotyper

The MALDI Biotyper has entered routine use in late September 2025. Blood culture identifications are now available sooner, cutting turnaround time by 24 hours. Workflow improvements allow identification to precede antibiotic testing, enabling more targeted, complete results upfront.

A Look Inside the Microbiology Lab

To help you see the impact of your contributions firsthand, the FSJ Hospital Foundation partnered with Flavur Creative to produce a behind-the-scenes video inside the Microbiology Lab. The video highlights the dedicated staff who use the MALDI Biotyper every day to improve patient care.

“We were also able to highlight the advantages of this groundbreaking technology and showcase how it would save time, money, and most importantly lives. The staff were incredible and it was such a fun experience for our crew to live out our CSI dream for a day,” shared Micah Sanchez from Flavur Creative.
