The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s Be an Angel Gala once again provided the perfect setting for the North Peace community to kick off the holiday season. Supported by presenting sponsor ConocoPhillips, this year’s Gala celebrated 30 years of enhancing health care in the North Peace.

In recognition of celebrating our 30th anniversary, the FSJ Hospital Foundation decked the Ralph Pomeroy Ballroom in blues and silvers to represent the FSJ Hospital Foundation, along with a touch of pearls, which symbolize 30 years. Led by Jenelle Loewen and Victoria Harder, many volunteers contributed their time and talent to transform the ballroom into a winter wonderland.

The evening began with an inspiring speech from Board Chair Desirae Jeannotte, highlighting the incredible achievements that can be realized when individuals unite around common goals. She further emphasized that the FSJ Hospital Foundation plays a pivotal role in bridging gaps in funding that directly benefits the patients of the hospital and residents of the Peace Villa Residential Care Facility. Ms. Jeannotte also took a moment to recognize all current and past volunteer board members in attendance.

An impressive sum of $162,000 was raised throughout the evening, showcasing the immense generosity of local businesses and families within our tight-knit community. A highlight of the event was the touching moment when the FSJ Hospital Foundation announced this year’s Janet Taylor Award recipient, Karen Sutherland. Guests then enjoyed a heartfelt video of Karen, which showcased her many moments of volunteering over the years.

To wrap up the fundraising portion of the evening, the final item in the live auction was the “I Remember Quilt,” which brought in a closing bid of $25,000. This unique quilt offers an opportunity to cherish the memories of our departed loved ones, who remain forever in our hearts. This year, Patricia C.D. Smith’s name will be lovingly sewn into the quilt as a timeless tribute to her memory. The winning bidder, her beloved son David Smith, was determined not to be outbid.

The I Remember Quilt was first auctioned off at the 2007 Be an Angel Gala, and since then, it has raised over $118,000 in support of local healthcare. The quilt hangs in the corridor outside the FSJ Hospital Foundation office throughout the year.
