The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation and ABC Recycling are once again inviting the North Peace community to clean up their properties while making a meaningful impact on local healthcare through the 2026 Summer Scrap Drive.

Running July 1 through September 1, 2026, the annual fundraiser challenges businesses, organizations, and residents to donate their unwanted scrap metal, with 100% of proceeds supporting the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation. Funds raised will help purchase vital medical equipment and enhance healthcare services for patients throughout the North Peace.

After raising an incredible $22,102.86 in 2025, organizers have set an ambitious new goal of $50,000 for this year’s campaign.

From old vehicles and farm equipment to appliances, patio furniture, lawn mowers, vehicle parts, and other unwanted metal, every donation helps transform scrap into better healthcare for our community.

Friendly Competition Returns

Adding to the excitement, ABC Recycling is once again hosting its friendly competition to recognize the event’s largest contributor. The top donor will receive the coveted Bischoff Trophy, a one-of-a-kind handcrafted cowboy hat made entirely from scrap metal by Bischoff Welding. The unique trophy will remain proudly displayed at the winning business until next year’s Summer Scrap Drive.

Last year’s champion was Josh Gilmour of Element Disposal, who claimed the title as the 2025 top contributor. Organizers are looking forward to seeing who will take home the trophy in 2026.

“The support we’ve seen from our community throughout the Scrap Drive has been incredible,” says Megan Rader, Executive Director of the FSJ Hospital Foundation. “Local generous businesses like ABC Recycling that have tons of heart are the reason we can continue to provide new advanced equipment and technology to the Fort St. John Hospital. We encourage everyone to get involved, whether it’s old farm equipment or that broken toaster you have stored away in the garage; it all adds up and makes a big difference right here in our community.”

How to Participate

Getting involved is simple:

  1. Gather unwanted scrap metal from your home, farm, acreage, or business.
  2. Drop it off at ABC Recycling, located at 9631 78 Street, Fort St. John, or contact ABC Recycling to arrange a pickup.
  3. Follow the campaign throughout the summer to see how individuals and businesses are climbing the leaderboard.

Whether you’re cleaning out your yard, replacing old equipment, or managing a large industrial project, every pound of scrap makes a difference.

Cleaning Up While Giving Back

The Summer Scrap Drive is a unique opportunity to improve our community in more ways than one by reducing waste while investing directly in local healthcare. Together, the North Peace community has already demonstrated what can be accomplished through generosity and collaboration. Organizers hope 2026 will be the biggest year yet.
