Bluey Day 2023 Shave Day Block Party a Success!

It was a bright and beautiful day this past Saturday when the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation hosted one of its signature events, Bluey Day.

There were 22 registered participants and 3 walk-in participants who raised $63,532.25 for the Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment Fund through the Hospital Foundation to purchase a Hematology Analyzer for the Fort St. John Hospital Laboratory.  These brave participants shaved their heads in commemorating their loved ones who are going through cancer and those who have passed.  12 of the participants donated their hair to the BC Wigs for Kids Program.

Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse hosted a Charity Barbecue and raised $1,500!  Volunteers face painted the child guests, the City of Fort St. John Recreation Department, BC Ambulance Services, Fort St. John City Fire Department and RCMP were on-site to provide entertainment and support the event!

“Thank you to everyone in the community who contributed to the success of Bluey Day!”, Kelly Amboe, the Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director, said.  She added, “Every donation makes a difference for those going through cancer.  It’s not too late for you to make a difference.  Make your donation through the Bluey Day online fundraising page, open until June 30, 2023”.

Since 1999, more than 900 participants have joined Bluey Day, and the event has now raised more than $2.2 Million!

More than 900 supporters have shaved their heads since then, and raised more than $2.2 Million.
