We are thrilled to announce the arrival of a new state-of-the-art GE LUNAR Pro Bone Densitometer (Bone Density Scanner) at FSJH! This upgrade marks a significant improvement in our diagnostic capabilities and patient care. Our previous Hologic DXA scanner, purchased over 11 years ago, has served us well but has reached the end of its life. The old scanner was slow, requiring patients to spend more time on the imaging table, and it provided suboptimal image quality, potentially leading to missed or undiagnosed pathologies.
The new GE LUNAR Pro Bone Densitometer is known for its durability and reliability, with some units operating efficiently for over 20 years. This means fewer interruptions and more consistent service for our community. The advanced technology of the GE scanner ensures faster imaging times and superior image quality, enhancing our ability to detect and diagnose bone health issues accurately.
In 2023, 426 bone density scans were performed, and we anticipate this number will rise to 500 in 2024. With the new scanner, the hospital is better equipped to meet this growing demand and provide timely, high-quality care.
According to Osteoporosis Canada, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will suffer from an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime. These fractures can be life-altering, but bone mineral density scanning helps predict fracture risk and allows physicians to develop appropriate treatment plans and preventive measures. Our new scanner will play a crucial role in preventing future injuries and improving the quality of life for our community.
We are excited about this upgrade and the positive impact it will have on our community’s health. Thank you for your continued trust in FSJ Hospital Foundation.
