This past June 14-16 a group of dedicated volunteers hosted the annual Arnie Isberg Memorial Slo-Pitch tournament despite the forecast calling for the most rain we have seen in two summers. 22 teams showed up to play in the rain, and mud at the Taylor Ball diamonds. This annual event drew teams from as far as Dawson Creek. The atmosphere at the tournament was lighthearted with many teams showing up in costume. Long time participant Coralee Szilagyi took home the Dan “Sumo” Ruttan award, this award is given to the individual that is dedicated to baseball, volunteering and some may find to be argumentative person. There was much fun to be had, from 50/50’s, relay races, a home run derby, and a costume contest. As the tournament wrapped up each and every team who won a cash prize, donated it to the FSJ Hospital Foundation, helping raise $15014.56 in support of the Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment Fund. It is never too early to get in on the fun, visit the Arnie Isberg Memorial 1-Pitch Tournament page on Facebook to get in contact with the organizers. The FSJ Hospital Foundation would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the organizers of this event, Jennifer McBride and Karri Laurin for their hard work and dedication throughout the years.
