Bluey Day registration opens for brave shavers

Bluey Day is back for Fort St. John’s bravest.

Those looking to show their support for cancer patients, survivors, and remember those lost to cancer, by participating in the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s 18th annual Bluey Day can officially register as of March 1.

Participants in this annual event will spend the next three months growing their hair and collecting donations from family, friends, and businesses, to have their head shaved on Bluey Day. This year, Bluey Day will be held on May 27th at the BC Ambulance Building on 96th Street.

This year’s goal is to have 50 participants raise $100,000 for equipment that will help diagnose, treat, and comfort patients with cancer at the Fort St. John Hospital. These donations allow the Foundation to respond to immediate equipment needs that will help patients with cancer remain in Fort St. John whenever possible.

With funds raised from the 2015 and 2016 Bluey Day events, the Foundation was able to fund $150,000 towards the MRI which is schedule to be installed later on this year.

The Foundation’s first Bluey Day was held in 1998, and through the generosity of donors, over $1.6 million has been raised for cancer diagnostic, treatment, and care equipment. One hundred percent of those funds have stayed in the community to support patients with cancer.
