Bluey Days

On May 27th participants will gather at the BC Ambulance Building to “Be Brave & Shave”. The 2019 campaign goal is to raise $100,000 for the Foundation’s Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Fund. Donations to this fund are used to purchase equipment that aids in the comfort, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cancer at our hospital. It also ensures the Foundation can meet both the long-term and emergent needs of our hospital as our medical staff works on early diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer.

With the funds raised from previous Bluey Day events, the Foundation was able to pledge $150,000 towards the MRI, purchase a $206,000 software upgrade to the Hospital’s CT scanner which allows the Hospital’s radiologist technicians to lower the radiation dose to patients, as well as a Gastroscope and Hysteroscope for our surgery department, which are both used for early detection and diagnosis of cancer.

Bluey Day participants are key to this fundraiser. Each “Be Brave & Shave” participant agrees to raise at least $500 to have their head shaved or have their ponytail cut off, but most set much higher personal goals. Individuals who don’t want to shave, can participate by growing their hair for a wig, hair must be a minimum of 8 inches long to donate. These amazing individuals seek sponsorship from family, friends and businesses. To meet the $100,000 target the Foundation hopes to have at least 50 head shavers or ponytail cutters. Each actively participating in seeking sponsorships. Each participant has a personal reason for shaving. It might be a young child shaving for his grandma or entire families shaving in support of their neighbour and friend. Regardless of the reason, they share the desire to do what they can to help battle this disease.

Bluey Day in Fort St. John was established in 1998 and through the generosity of donors over $1.6 million has been raised! 100% of those funds have stayed in our community to support our citizens dealing with cancer.

This is a family friendly event that brings our entire community together. Participants, volunteers, businesses, families and friends all gather to celebrate and support our local cancer survivors, those currently battling the disease as well as remembering those we have lost.
