The Gift of Music for Peace Villa

By January 30, 2019 No Comments

Pictured above (left to right) are Peace Villa residents Ernest Markwart and Maria Shpen with Peace Villa staff member Lori Rowe enjoying their morning exercises to music. Behind Ernie is one of 8 newly donated LG Home Sound Systems with Portable Speakers and Bluetooth Technology. Midwest Survey Land Surveying donated the Sound Systems and an abundance of CD’s for the residents and staff at Peace Villa to enjoy. The Peace Villa Care Facility and the FSJ Hospital Foundation would like to thank Midwest for such a fantastic gift and Dawn Ellis for championing this amazing idea! Pictured below (on the far right) is Dawn with Midwest team and family members.¬†Dawn’s grandmother resides in the dementia wing of the Peace Villa Care Facility and she felt very passionate that this purchase would enhance the quality of life for the residents.

Kelly White (Peace Villa Recreation Program Coordinator) says that over the years, music has played an important role in most of our seniors’ lives and brings joy and value to us all. From time to time, Kelly has seen residents lose their will to engage and it breaks her heart, she has noticed that often music can bring withdrawn residents “back to life”. She has seen seniors “FEEL, REMEMBER, and EMBRACE A MEMORY all for the sound of music”.

It was so fun to work with Kelly and Midwest to fulfill this amazing vision. We are always open to great ideas that improve patient comfort and care at the hospital and Peace Villa Care Facility from amazing community members like Dawn!
